penny pupstar comfy, peaceful and welcoming lower blackaton is a truly beautiful place to stay. the house was lovely, with lots of rooms and the perfect kitchen for big groups. it's the ideal place to go to get away from a busy town or city for the week. i would definitely recommend this as a place to stay for any occasion. annabelle s cosy and timeless walks a few suggestions of the many walks in the area pub walks walk from the door, down the road, up the path, over hameldown and down into the village. when you get to the centre follow the lane down by the side of the church along to the rugglestone inn . approx 40 mins, fast pace. a longer walk will take you to the warren house inn. easy, for all the family drive to challacombe from lower blackaton, walk along the flat, straight path. cross over onto the edge of the river and you’ll find a medieval ruin. approx 3 mins by car, 30 mins walking. another family favourite is to drive to bone hill. those who want to climb can climb while the others can watch from a picnic spot. bone hill is just the other side of widecombe. approx 10 mins drive. the river path drive to and park at badgers holt. cross the road from the car park by the bridge. follow the river path round. you’ll find some beautiful, grassy, still picnic spots or if you want a bit more excitement carry on walking to a faster running river area and bolders. approx 15 mins by car, 10 mins walking. circular walk, 10k turn left out of the gate, up the hill then down the hill. turn right along a straight road to challacombe. walk up past challacombe, over the hill and along into the tin mine. walk back via grimspound, up over hameldown, down the path and back to the house up the road. approx 2 hours. if you'd like to know more, do get in touch email judy explore and experience see what the local area has to offer. about judy judy has lived at lower blackaton since 2003. she moved there, with her husband, david lomax, from berkshire. they knew dartmoor well from living there in the 60s while david was a tv reporter for the southwest. later david’s tv reporting work took him all over the world for bbctv’s panorama and newsnight programes. they lived for 36 years in berkshire before returning to dartmoor. david died in 2014. judy decided to stay at lower blackaton, in the area she loves. judy is a keen sailor, has worked as a journalist and a teacher and has written five books. lower blackaton is a visit dartmoor member. contact [email protected] +44 (0)1364 621369 visit us social © 2018 lower blackaton
